Tragedy from the Indian Ocean

I have personal evidence that the holiday season can distract you to the point of total unawareness of the outside world.

I spent the greater part of the evening resting and feeling dejected over the 21-0 shellacking the Jaguars took from Houston at home yesterday afternoon. This was a playoff game for us and they just didn’t show up. My wife and I then went over to her sister’s house for leftovers, where we watched The Bourne Supremacy on a DVD (I see another sequel coming after this), followed by Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and I played with the new iRiver MP3 player gifted to me by the spouse and child. Got home late, five minutes of the Sunday night game, some movie on the dish I fell asleep watching…

This morning’s fishwrap pulled me back as it blared out the story of the day, what I missed because I just didn’t bother even looking at news for a few hours: the Indian Ocean tsunamis that killed over 21,000.

I cannot, for the life of me, imagine the horror and devastation that has been experienced by the people of these affected countries. I realize that people in that part of the world might not celebrate the Christmas holiday with the same fervor we do here in the West. But how quickly can the happiness experienced at this time of year around the world be knocked away by the sadness felt for the dead, injured and survivors of this terrible event?

Pray very heard for those nations struck by this unforeseen terror.
