I guess I’m switching to Greymatter in a few months…

Something interesting I’ve noticed since I switched from Movable Type to WordPress. My hosting service keeps error logs on my domains, and I can access a list of recent ones from their site management web page. In recent days, I’ve noticed a flood of error requests for the comment script and random entry pages on the old MT setup. Looks like I’ve found another way to screw the comment spammers: change blog software. They’re still trying to hit me, but I’m no longer where they think I am.

There are, incidentally, a number of pretty simple ways to combat spam in WordPress, one of which I’ve implemented here. That hack is designed to make it tough for comment spam scripters to automate their way into the blog’s comment pages. So far, it appears to be working, except for this on insistent little prick who’s apparently entering his crap manually. Keep coming, pal, I’m watching you.

I dare not speak of victory too soon, though. They just haven’t figured out what I’ve done yet. The war rages on.
