Two weeks ago, I linked to and did a commentary on a story on Val’s blog about Victor’s 1959 Café, a restaurant in Minneapolis that serves Cuban-style food with a motif that celebrates the murderous Castro and Guevara.
Yesterday, a comment was added to that entry by three gentlemen from here who refer to themselves as Three Guys from Miami. Raúl, Jorge and Glenn are very familiar with Victor’s Cafe and have a lot to say about it and about the responses to a review they wrote about it some time ago.
What they have to say is important for a couple of reasons. First, they were highly critical of Victor’s food, and since they have more than ample experience with Cuban culture and cooking, they know what they’re talking about. Second, by the reactions in the Minneapolis press, there’s an acute misunderstanding of the hypocritical juxtaposition of oppressive Communist rule and the suffering of an entire nation.
Finally, you will get to read a response from someone in the area, reacting to the way the reporter’s story conveniently forgot one side of the issue.
What the Three Guys offered is far too important, and I felt it necessary to point it out lest it be missed. So just go to this link to see their comments, and read the entire thing.
Update: I was able to add some clarifying information to the material provided by the Three Guys. I’ve placed it in a comment as part of the original piece here.
