Hollywood, California — July 13, 2003 — The recent multiple arrests of rapper Beanie Sigel sent shockwaves through the retired cartoon star community when it was falsely reported that the police had arrested animated pals Beanie and Cecil.
Sigel was recently arrested in Philadelphia on separate assault, weapons possesion and attempted murder charges. Sigel was part of the Rock the Mic tour with rap artists like Jay-Z before turning himself into authorities and his rearrest last week.
“I was not arrested for anything. I don’t even own a gun,” claimed the cartoon Beanie during a press conference at the International Cartoon Hall of Fame in Boca Raton, Florida. The popular ’60s cartoon star was present to donate the Leakin’ Lena, the show’s famous boat, to the cartoon museum.
Cecil, who’s full name is Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent, expressed uncharacteristic anger at the false rumors that flew through this exclusive acting community. “This was a terrible thing to happen to my pal Beanie Boy and me, terrible, just terrible,” the giant green serpent said from his home on Malibu beach, where he lives with Beanie and Beaine’s uncle, Capt’n Huffenpuff, the former skipper of the Leakin’ Lena. “I wouldn’t be surprised if this was something started by that old villain, Dishonest John,” Cecil claimed, referring to his and Beanie’s former cartoon nemesis.
Dishonest John was not directly available for comment due to his incarceration at the Animated Villains Halfway House in Fresno. Speaking through his attorney, John stated that he had nothing to do with the false stories regarding his former television victims. “Mr. John has been in custody at Fresno for some time, and has had no contact with any media outlets regarding Mr. Sigel’s situation or Mr. Beanie and Mr. Serpent. He has multiple witnesses, including Yosemite Sam and Snidely Whiplash, who will attest to his whereabouts and his activities. In fact, Ranger Smith from Jellystone Park works at the halfway house as a part-time guard, and he will also supply a statement attesting to this. These charges by Mr. Serpent are scurrilous and without merit.”
Other retired cartoon stars were shocked by the false allegations against their friends and were relieved to hear it was a hoax.
“That Beanie and Cecil, those are fine, I say, those are fine fellows,” said Warner Bros. star Foghorn Leghorn. “Look at me when I’m talkin’ to ya, boy. It’s a dang shame when decent, I say, decent cartoon stars can’t live in peace in their old age.”
Astro, from the cast of the Hannah-Barbera hit The Jetsons, thought that the possibility of Dishonest John’s involvement continues to demonstrate the inability of cartoon villains to rehabilitate. “Rishonest Rohn rill rever rearn ‘is resson,” the canine star barked. “RI ray rock ‘im rup rand row aray duh rey.”
Thanks for that. It cheered up my day!
Hello,
Just thought that people might like to know where Beanie and Cecil originally came from. My aunt Virginia Sublette Shows had five children very close in age. One day she took a sock and buttons and sewed up Cecil and then Beanie. The other characters followed suit.
I don’t know where Cecil came from but Beanie came from my cousin who refused to stop wearing a beanie hat with a propeller on it and so they nicknamed him Beanie. John was the name of her father, John Sublette, Senior and also her brother, John Sublette, Junior.
My aunt’s husband was Charles Shows a cartoonist who worked for Bob Clampett.
Does anyone remember the Cecil and Beanie Puppet Show that was on TV ca 1952-4? it was created by Stan Freeberg and predated the cartoon.
Wow Cecil and Beanie are not forgotten. I watched almost every episode of the original puppet show. I believe if I remember well, that Cecil had a deep voice with a Bronx type accent. One day on the air, his eye fell off and he had one eye through out that episode. That I remember as plain as day. I would love to see that show again, so I could relate. Thank you for keeping them alive.

You are a very good and very funny writer. I own about 30 Cecil & Beanie original animation cels and lineart, and I believe they came from the 60′s series. I was told there was an 80′s series as well. Do you know if this is true, and do you know where the best place to sell these pieces of art would be?
Thank you…
Thanks for livening up my morning and bringing back childhood memories! Every now and then I will spurt out a phrase that came from that show and my kids and grandkids just look at me; they have no idea who beanie and cecil are! what a shame. There was just something about the cartoons of our generation, they just had an appeal that doesnt fade away easily. Thanks for keeping one of our favorite shows alive. Wish they would bring it back again!
Thanks to all of you who enjoyed this bit. As Diane mentioned, sometimes just hearing a name or phrase will remind you of things like the old ‘toons, and that’s basically how I got the idea for this. Those of you who browse the site will see that I have a particlar fondness for some of these old shows.
Thanks to all for visiting.
HEE HEE HEE HO HO

Karla,
I can not provide you with a source for the the Beanie and Cecil version of “R-A-G-G-M-O-P-P” (with ‘not yet Gigi’), but it was based on, and nearly identical to, the song by the same name done by the Ames Brothers. My favorite episode.
Karla,
i have a copy of raggmopp in mp3 form let me know if you want it
I have the original RAGGMOPP 78 rpm record. I could save it as a mp3. Let me know.
To Brian and Andy… I would love to get a copy of the raggmopp song. A friend and I were just discussing old cartoons and shows we enjoyed.
Thanks
anyone know were I can find the Beany and Cecil version of “R-A-G-G-M-O-P-P”
Thanks!
We named our sheepdog (45 years ago) after the song which we knew from the Beany and Cecil show. Not sure how this would work, but I’d love to get a mp3 of the song.
I’ve been looking for beanie and his sea sick serperent for a while. I have a Beanie Doll from back in the sixties which we brought over from Canada to Australia when my family moved. It’s really nice hearing that these guys left as many happy memories with yo as they have with me. Soon to be a grandmother I thought i would decorate the nursery with these as the theme. Thanks for putting a smile on my face.
“Where the hell are you going? You’re either being a nosy little bastard, or you have unintentionally stumbled on something you’re not supposed to be looking at.”
Nice. Except that you stole the image from another site…
Actually, “Bob,” I didn’t steal anything. The site where I found the image gave me the okay to use it when I requested. Since I’m not making any income or revenue with the image, they were cool with me using it.
The reason you saw the image and message you did was because I set my site up to not allow hotlinks to images on this blog. I do that so people don’t use up all my bandwidth linking to an image on my blog from their site. Bandwidth for which I pay money, by the way.
So, if you’re willing to kick in some cash for my hosting fees, I’ll give you a hotlink. You actually could have just copied the image to your own site, and no one would have been the wiser. Instead, you have to be an asshole and leave a snide comment.
So now, you’re banned. Which means you may never see this.
Have a nice day.
I collect original Beany and Cecil artwork. Does anybody know where I can find collectors who have any for sale? Thanx!
I read your posting from last year, and wanted to reply because I am looking for a buyer for my original ‘Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent’ talking stuffed animal. DO you remember those? Amazingly, after all these years, he still talks every time you pull his string. If you read this posting, and you are interested, drop me a line. Thanks!!
I am looking to buy a Cecil the Serpent stuffed animal
