Now, this is something that would inspire me to get rid of my DSL connection, if only they can get the bugs worked out.

The FCC and some power companies are reexamining the possibilities of transmitting broadband data signals across existing power lines. In spite of the hurdles that must be overcome, this service would be a great thing for people who live in rural areas where common broadband options (DSL and cable) are simply not available, leaving dialup as the only real option. In most rural areas of the country, electricity is readily available, making the possibilities of reaching those people much greater.

This would bring me one step closer to getting rid of my landline phone service, though the actual possibilities of doing so are still a long way off. I need that service not only for my DSL, but for my alarm system and satellite service as well. Dammit.
